4. |
Figure out the format of the comic -- will it fit in a standard size comic book, will it be a standalone story, what size/proportion will the panels be (if there are panels)? |
5. |
Ink the panel borders at least double the size of what the final product will be. It's also helpful to make a little mini-mock-up of what the final product will look like. |
6. |
Pencil the comic, including lettering (I like to search Google images if I am having trouble picturing the details of an object, place, etc) |
7. |
Ink the comic (black micron pens and, for the more advanced, india ink and paintbrush work well -- sharpies and regular markers should be avoided because they bleed and ballpoint pens should be avoided because they don't photocopy well) |
8. |
Erase the pencil |
9. |
Scan the pages and set up for print (or, if you're old school, go to Kinko's and shrink/cut & paste layout) |
10. |
Design and produce a cover -- think about whether or not it will be screen-printed, photocopied, what kind of paper stock/color, etc. |
